The China Railways Pavilion was located in Zone D (Puxi) during the 2010 Shanghai Expo. The pavilion was designed and constructed under the theme “Harmonious Railways Expand Spaces for Better Life”. The project aimed to promote sustainable architecture and green city. The idea behind the project is the use of railways to connect cities. It is composed of two side cube elements with lead stripes creating a grid. The cubes are constructed with copper square panels. These cubes serve as a metaphor for city grids. The middle part uses black glass with flexible white lines running across the façade. This represents the railway lines connecting cities. The materials used in construction are simple in emphasizing urban impressions. LED lights were used to accessories the building. These lights gave various outlines of city skylines.
